Hello boys and girls and welcome to another edition of cover wars today we have two contestants fighting for to be the best representation of the book in hand, Born Wicked, for those of you that do not know this story feel free to check out my review of it <Click Here For Born Wicked Review>
In this color enchanting you with her eyes we have the original cover, also known like the Hardcover edition:
In the other corner we have the new edition of the cover which we will refer to as the paperback cover:
Ready or not here I come, all of my cover love goes for the first cover, for someone that has read the book he/she knows that some of the most important parts happen in the garden so that is something that makes me reminisce every time I see this cover. Another thing that I love is the fonts that are used in to spell the name of the series, the book and the authors seem to live symbiotically with all the other elements in the cover.
And last but not least we have the girl, who I presume is Cate, and I love the effect it has on it, if you see her facing down she looks strong and confident, but if you turn it around you start to see the doubt she was trying to hide and either way you are seeing it her eyes bewitch you and you don't want to avert your eyes from hers. Honestly I don't see the point on changing such a magnificent cover, I think it nails the whole idea behind this one has the book down to a T.
The new cover is beautiful I don't deny it, I just don't see the connection to the story, I think the moon represents the connection with the unknown and the witches, but I don't get the crows, what are they doing there and why is she holding one? If they represent the enemies or evil why is she holding it? the thing I love is the purple background and I admit the crows give it an interesting look. But the thing I just can't stop thinking is "This girl is sooo stuck up she wont even look at me in the eyes". I believe this cover is beautiful and maybe in some other book we could have hit it off, but as a substitute to a cover that I feel could be a work of art it just can't hold a candle to the Hardcover edition.
Now for the most important part, What do you think Hardcover or Paperback? and please tell us why.
Ew! No. Just no. I do like the cover but for my Born Wicked? This awesome book deserves a better paperback. The same cover would be nice... -_-
ReplyDeleteI wish the new cover was for another book. You are right about the crows. They could represent evil. It's just wrong for this already perfect cover. *stares angrily at cover*
She’s Got Books on Her Mind
I agree 100% with you the same cover would be nice, and the paperback is a nice cover, but not for this book. I'll star angrily with you! We'll keep each other company
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this book But I instantly fell in love with the Hardcover one!
ReplyDeleteYes!!! it was love at first sight for me too!!!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree with you more...the first just fit the book so much more. I fear that they are simply trying to market to a younger audience with the new cover!
ReplyDeleteYes me too and it saddens me because this is such a great book :(
