This week we have Abbi Gline's series The Vincent Boys, a series I've been trying to read and what drawn me to it was the cover, which is now here because it had a cover make over. Lets take a look at the summary:
Ashton is getting tired of being good, of impressing her parents and playing ideal girlfriend to Sawyer Vincent. Sawyer is perfect, a regular Prince Charming, but when he leaves town for the summer, it’s his cousin Beau catches Ashton’s eye. Beau is the sexiest guy she’s ever seen, and even though he’s dangerous, Ashton is drawn to him.
Beau loves his cousin like a brother, so the last thing he wants to do is make a move on Sawyer’s girl. Ashton is off-limits, absolutely. That’s why he does his best to keep his distance, even though he’s been in love with her forever. When Ashton wants to rekindle their childhood friendship in Sawyer’s absence, Beau knows he should say no.
Ashton and Beau don’t want to hurt Sawyer. But the more they try to stay away from each other, the more intense their urges become. It’s getting way too hard to resist...

Now then, this week we are looking at a series, that means both the Vincent Boys and the Vincent Brothers got a book make over, so lets take a look at our contestants shall we:
First we have the colorful and lollipopish original covers:
Versus their sexy black and white counterparts:
Lets talk first about the sexy black and white covers, they are an interesting they depict more a young adult story or a Levis commercial if you ask me.
If there was some sort of link between one and another with the fonts it would really make it obvious to anyone exploring the shelves that this two books are related, it doesn't feel like the font in the middle from the Vincent Boys would have had a negative effect on the Vincent Boys cover, and that little line of color really helps it pop up from the otherwise monotonous black and white.
In the Vincent Boys black and white cover we have a different font with different colors, the cover doesn't really stand out, it doesn't do this book any favors.
The colorful lollipopish version keeps a link between both books of the series, the theme and the fonts lead you to believe that both books for a part of something, that they are in one way or another related. The lollipop element in both Vincent covers seems to be the thing that stands out in it and even if others have used it on covers, it just makes me feel that they made it their own.
I can't even vote on these...I like the black and white with the colored text best...but not the other black and white. And although the colors on the originals really pop...it is almost too much! And what is with that starglly hair on the 1st cover. It does not look like sexy whisps hanging down if it is supposed to...it looks like a sick person who's lost most of their hair :(
ReplyDeleteI agree with you the hair situation on the first colored book cover dirties it a bit, nothing that a little gel, hair spray or Photoshop couldn't have cleaned, I have no idea why they decided to keep it that way.
