Cover Wars: Beautiful Creatures

Ok, so if you like to go to the book section of the big stores or you love to walk around a book shop you might of noticed that beautiful creatures got a cover make over to go with the movie that hits theaters in February 13, if not lets have a look shall we.

First we have the original cover for Beautiful Creatures:

Then we have the book cover inspired in the motion picture:

Now if you let me I will tell you what I think, I love the first cover it is beautiful and haunted at the same time it attracts people to it with a simple and clean design that tries to pull you deeper into the woods where you feel you can unravel its secrets.
I like that the second cover showing respect to the original by trying to blend both concepts into one, the book and the movie, but still it unsettles me, you see for me when they modify book covers like this I feel like they are doing the equivalent to human trafficking or  book whoring.
I know it's not the fault of the authors but it stills hurts a little, the fact that I understand that it's a marketing strategy doesn't mean I have to like it.
But as I said I respect this, compared to others that I've seen this one is trying to pay it's respect to the original while trying to attract new people into the series.
What do you think??

  1. I the covers used in the Beautiful Creatures series itself meaning the proper book ones, I am not a fan of the movie tie in ones, a lot of the time keeping things simple is the way to go and the movie tie in just has too much going on.
