Hi guys
and welcome to Cover Wars where covers aren’t afraid to cry for attention. Each
week we have a new book title showcasing the different faces it’s had and each
week we reveal last week’s winner. Last week we had The Lightning Thief by Rick
Riordan and one of the most famous faces in YA Urban Fantasy, you picked it and
here is your winner!!
Well known cover!!!!
It
seems there is some comfort in the things we see the most, well enough about
The Lightning Thief, it’s time to bring to the spotlight this week’s book which
will be kicking off Steampunctober which basically means that most of the
content on this blog will be trying to showcase some literary steampunk
representatives. This week we have God Save the Queen by Kate Locke, for those
of you that haven’t heard of this book before here is the book blurb:
Queen Victoria
rules with an immortal fist.
The undead
matriarch of a Britain where the Aristocracy is made up of werewolves and
vampires, where goblins live underground and mothers know better than to let
their children out after dark. A world where being nobility means being
infected with the Plague (side-effects include undeath), Hysteria is the
popular affliction of the day, and leeches are considered a delicacy. And a
world where technology lives side by side with magic. The year is 2012 and Pax
Britannia still reigns.
Xandra
Vardan is a member of the elite Royal Guard, and it is her duty to protect the
Aristocracy. But when her sister goes missing, Xandra will set out on a path
that undermines everything she believed in and uncover a conspiracy that
threatens to topple the empire. And she is the key-the prize in a very
dangerous struggle.
Now that we all know a little bit about God
Save the Qeen by Kate Locke, let’s take a look at what everyone’s been waiting
for THE COVERS!!
First let’s go to the European cover that
decided to adapt a different face, one that makes the potential reader feel
like there is only Xandra and England to worry about, to care about, one that says “The sun never rises in the Britain
empire” leaving no doubt that vampires are involved.
The second cover is the most used cover, one
with a confident looking Xandra, one that contrary to the other cover seems to
be ok with being in the middle of the action, even if both covers show
confident women I feel this one shows one that is more confident of her
abilities other than her looks.
So it seems this week is French v.s. American
to decide the best face for a book set in Britain, which of this covers do you
feel makes a better connection with the book blurb or if you’ve read it with
the book itself? Is there a cover that makes you get the grabby hands? Please
let us know which one was your favorite cover by voting and commenting.
I like the American version of this one :)
