So Robyn from Fairytales and Folklore and I are doing a read-along in Goodreads, we are trying to
get people motivated into reading the book, it doesn’t matter if it is before
or after you get to see the movie or if you just want to read the book.
For me
reading this book is important, it is the way I will take away the power of the
prejudice that has been inserted to me by the misbehaving Twilight fans that
have acted as if Stephanie Meyer is the author equivalent of king Midas, and
that her powers where transmitted all the way into the movies.
Specially
the wave of hard core Twilight fans, I want to take the power out of them throw
that prejudice out the window and give a book a chance because I am curious and
not to those it aside because the author’s fans (movie fans, at this point for
me it doesn’t matter it’s the whole concept that is tainted) refuse to
acknowledge anyone’s opinion because it goes against their own.
Now this isn't an attack or anything, I understand that there are people that love/loved Twilight and aren't part of the group I just described. I also want to thank those fans that read my "If you didn't like Twilight" book recommendations and didn't jump at it as if it was some sort of attack.
I want
to read this book but I don’t think it’s something that I can accomplish on my
own and it might actually take me two weeks to read this book.
So, if
its just because you are curious about the book, because the movie got you
interested, or perhaps you want to read the book before going to the movie theater or maybe your reason is like mine and you want to make an opinion of your
own about this book even with all the bad rep the other series by Stephanie
Meyer has, then come join us at this read along, Robyn and I will be waiting for
you at Addicted to YA.
In my opinion, host is by far the best book she has written. It is my single most favorite stand-alone book. And it isn't even on the same ball field, she awed me with this book I've also read it 4 times, and also cried 4 times. I just finished it last week to ready myself to see the movie. This book surpasses the twilight series and movies by legions. I would say if you didn't like twilight, to read the host. I will warn you it starts out kind of slow, but it ends with a bang. I hope you enjoy it and if you want to bounce your opinions off on someone who really enjoyed the book, My email is emmaleehelen@gmail.com I would love to discuss it with you!

I'm not sure I'm going to read this book, but my friend gave it to me. I like the reasons why you want to read it.
ReplyDeletethank you! And if you change your mind we will be over at Goodreads, and if you don't have an account there maybe Robyn and I could do some of the discussion here on our blogs :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you for being open minded.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I read the entire Twilight series. I had a love/hate relationship with them. I thought the story was cute (but predictable), I thought Edward was controlling (but still kind of sweet), I did not like Bella, I thought she was an airhead, and I was always "Team Jacob" from Day 1.
I did not like the writing style of them. For me personally, I think Stephenie Meyer is a terrible writer. However, she's making millions, so she must be doing something right! Since I did not like the writing style, I am not interested in reading (or even watching) The Host.
BTW, I am also on Goodreads. How can I find you on it?
Thank you very much for your offer Emmalee, I'll be contacting you so we can discuss it :D
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can interest you in another read along one day ;)
ReplyDeleteHere is the link to my Goodreads profile: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1823303-berenice
thank you! I added you on goodreads! =)
ReplyDeleteCan you please tell me, what exactly is a "read along"?
Well for me a read along is when a group of people decide to read the book and start sharing their opinion while reading it, kind of a book club only all the way till the end of the book. Does it make any sense???
