Remember how I said that Flame / Fall of a Kingdom by
Hilary Bell was different from other books that had been on Cover Wars,
well it may not be so different after all. This week we have the debut novel of
author Lenore Appelhans, her actually known as Level 2 is getting a cover make
over and another christening.
The
author claims that then change of name is due to the confusions the tittle of
the first installment of The Memory Chronicles has caused among possible
readers. Here I agree, when I first heard about this book my first thought was “and…
where is level 1??” until I decided to venture into Goodreads that easily
explained that this was a debut novel and first in the series.
Now
before I bore you with my babbling, lets take a peak at what Level 2 is all
about:
Since
her untimely death the day before her eighteenth birthday, Felicia Ward has
been trapped in Level 2, a stark white afterlife located between our world and
the next. Along with her fellow drones, Felicia passes the endless hours
reliving memories of her time on Earth and mourning what she’s lost—family,
friends, and Neil, the boy she loved.
Then a
girl in a neighboring chamber is found dead, and nobody but Felicia recalls
that she existed in the first place. When Julian—a dangerously charming guy
Felicia knew in life—comes to offer Felicia a way out, Felicia learns the
truth: If she joins the rebellion to overthrow the Morati, the angel guardians
of Level 2, she can be with Neil again.
Suspended
between Heaven and Earth, Felicia finds herself at the center of an age-old
struggle between good and evil. As memories from her life come back to haunt
her, and as the Morati hunt her down, Felicia will discover it’s not just her
own redemption at stake… but the salvation of all mankind.
Now
that we know what this other worldly dystopian adventure promise let’s take a
look at the original cover:
And it’s
now partner in crime that will accompany us in paperback form on September 3,
2013:
What do
you think? Should the title of the first book in this series have been changed?
Do you have a favorite cover? If you have read the book, what title and cover
do you think suits the story best?
Ughhh that is SO confusing!! I thought Level 2 was doing pretty well, no clue why they would have to change the cover art AND the name. The name should've been figured out beforehand... umm research??? Anyway I would NEVER know that was the same book if I saw it at the bookstore :(
ReplyDeleteI know, I thought it was the cover for the second book. Maybe when they where thinking about Lever 2 they thought it would intrigue more then it would confuse people??
ReplyDeleteFrom what I heard people were getting confused by the title Level 2, thinking that it was a sequel so they decided to change it. I can understand the change, but it is rather irritating for those of us with Shelf OCD. They actually look kind of the same to me I guess, but MoA looks better ever so slightly.
ReplyDeleteLets hope the second book has a feel that gets along with both covers :)
