{Blog Tour Spotlight} Such Sweet Sorrow by Jenny Trout

Author: Jenny Trout
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Pages: 304
Pub. Date: February 4, 2014
Never was there a tale of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo…But true love never dies. Though they’re parted by the veil between the world of mortals and the land of the dead, Romeo believes he can restore Juliet to life, but he’ll have to travel to the underworld with a thoroughly infuriating guide.
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, may not have inherited his father’s crown, but the murdered king left his son a much more important responsibility—a portal to the Afterjord, where the souls of the dead reside. When the determined Romeo asks for help traversing the treacherous Afterjord, Hamlet sees an opportunity for adventure, and the chance to avenge his father’s death.
In an underworld filled with leviathan monsters, ghoulish shades, fire giants and fierce Valkyrie warriors, Hamlet and Romeo must battle their way through jealousy, despair, and their darkest fears to rescue the fair damsel. Yet finding Juliet is only the beginning, and the Afterjord doesn’t surrender souls without a price…

{Cover Wars} The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Hello there unsuspected reader and welcome to cover wars the place where covers try their best to get your attention and for you to pick them as the rightful wearer of the book they represent. But before this week’s contestants come out to do their catwalk let’s take a moment to see the winner of last week’s cover wars, so step right up if you want to see the winner for this dystopian better known as Crewel by Gennifer Albin.
And Cover Make-Over gets the crown!
Now that this cover has had it’s time to shine let’s get into this week’s covers, first of all the book making the covers jump for your attention is The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, now in case the book and the movie went all ninja on you and this is your first time hearing about it here is the book blurb:
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus' master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus' stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
Now that we are all in the same page, more or less, we better get started with the covers because let me tell you boys and girls this book has had a lot of faces to show.
Ok, so it was kind of hard to decide with which one to start, but let’s see first the one that was once used as an audio book cover, the one that isn’t afraid to show the mythological monsters that come bumping out.
Next up is the cover of gold, purple and flying shows that tries to intrigue the potential reader with this twist in a well known mythological figure.
After the really cool sneakers we have the first glance at Percy and a cover that shows a little bit more of “book skin” by which I mean it tells you more about the story then the other covers have so far.
It seems that one of the mythological creatures didn’t get enough attention of it’s first appearance that it hunted down the person in charge of the cover art and made this person give him the main stage in this cover.
Bear with me guys we are almost, this next cover is more attached to the movie, the one released in 2010 hitting people from the big screen with a taste of what book lovers already knew was a good story, here we have the charged up cover.
And finally the cover some of you were waiting for the most known cover, the one you are most likely to find in a book store near you or maybe it’s already siting in your bookshelf!
Well now I think we stumbled upon a large amount of cover to a degree that we could call The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan a book with multiple covers disorder. So which of this covers where you most surprised about? Which one did you like the most? Have you had seen all of this covers or where there some new ones for you?

{Blog Tour Audio Book Review} The Gatekeeper's Sons by Eva Pohler

Series: Gatekeeper's Trilogy #1
Publication date: August 13, 2012
Publisher: Green Press/Eva Pohler
ISBN-13: 9780615685960
Synopsis
After being on a horrible accident that left 15 year old Therese partentless she goes into a come where she meets the sons of Hades, Hipnos and Thanatos, events that happened on during her coma dreams lead up to a deal with Hades himself and a hunt to find her parents killers.
This deal pushes Therese into the gods radar in a good and in a bad way.
Review
The narrator at times made the book look as if it was parts that where just wrote in a very simple manner, she would move away from the natural flow she was using and move her voice I don't know if in an effort to hide the fact or she felt there was something there to move but she only made those times more obvious  I will be reading this book on another time to see who is really at fault.
When the narrator did some of the voices that weren't Therese and her part as a narrator she sounded at times mechanical, read and killed the flow of the story.
When the Debbie Andreen didn't commit some of this flaws the story had a really amiable flow, and I could do some light stuff around while enjoying this audio book.
From the story Therese unnerved me at the beginning of the story and I was afraid she would go the same path that Bella did in New Moon by Stephanie Meyer when she was saying that she wanted to die, I am glad to report Therese didn't go into the self-harm rout.
I loved Eva Pohler's choice of gods for this book, as much as I like Persephone's retellings I like that Eva is trying to expand the number of gods that get some "camera time". Seen a god in the human world for the first time was interesting I was expecting a more arrogant or a more in control kind of situation but I like the angle that Eve Pohler used on The Gatekeeper's Sons she is truly making this story her own.

{Review} Cleopatra Ascending by Maureen Lipinski

Series: Shadow's Edge #2
Publication Date: January 8th, 2013
Publisher: Flux
ISBN-13: 9780738731933
Synopsis
Reah is the normal one of the family, well as normal as she can be by being the sister of a witch, a shaman and a muse. Even if she knows she is the reincarnation of Cleopatra she has no extraordinary powers or abilities like her sisters.
That is until her sixteen birthdate strange dreams from her past life and danger comes knocking on her door. Now she must learn to trust Declan and the Secret Order of Antony and a way for them to work together so the Octavians can’t get access to Reah’s and Cleopatra’s powers.
Review
When I requested this book I didn’t know it was the second in the series, actually author Maureen Lipinski did a great job not making me feel left out of the story, there was a part where I suddenly knew this wasn’t the first part of the series, but it didn’t spoil the surprises that this book has installed.
Reah got on my nerves at times, I had to close the book and just do something else to blow some of the steam off because I couldn’t really justify the things she did even if at some point I could understand them.
I liked Lipinski’s way of describing the story and bringing it to life, even if there where points where I felt that some of the characters needed to be further developed.
The problem that I had with this story was the only thing that didn’t let me get lost in it, this book is telling us about Cleopatra’s reincarnation and about her past; those are some big shoes to fill. Sadly this story didn’t come to fulfill all the expectations I had from this story, mainly I think it’s because when I was growing up I liked to read mythology, fairy tales and great historical figures even if it was just a story or two about their lives.
This is way even if I can recognize Lipinski’s strong points in this story I can’t give this story more than the following.

If you didn't like Twilight, then read Chicagoland Vampires or The Iron Druid Chronicles

I want something more adult
Maybe Twilight was too juvenile for you? If so then I have two books that might be of interest for you guys.
How about Chicagoland Vampires, in this series we accompany Merit a graduate student finds herself one unlucky night at the wrong side of campus where her existence if forever change.

This was the book that made me fall in love with Urban Fantasy (other than Harry Potter of course), this is a book that makes you have fun with all the creatures, myths and stories you thought you knew, it give a fresh hair to vampires, werewolves, witches, gods and other creatures that we might stumble upon on this fund ride that Kevin Hearne has prepared for us.
