{Cover Wars} Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Welcome to this week’s edition of cover wars, where covers battle it out and only one is chosen as the fans favorite. This week we have a book that has had quite the cover make overs, we are talking about the one and only Across the Universe by Beth Revis, a round of applause ladies and gentlemen!!!
Now before we take a look at todays contestants shall we take a look at the book blurb for those that don’t know the book or don’t remember it:
A love out of time. A spaceship built of secrets and murder.
Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. One of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.
Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.
Now that we all have some idea about the book in question shall we take a look at the contenders?
First we have the cover that leads us to believe that this wont be just a mystery book, but that romance will also be involved, maybe a metaphor using the infinity of the universe and their love?
With this cover I can totally see the book blurb come in to full motion, it gives a light to Amy on her quest for the truth and the possibility that she is being watch as she looks in the space ship for answers.
This covers leaves a lot to the imagination in my opinion, it hints at places that may become relevant as the story progresses.

This is the newest cover for Across the Universe and let me tell you if we compare this one to those before it, I find it lacking it does represent the people that decided to stay frozen on the ship... but... besides that it doesn't really speak to me. Compared to it all the other books are like sirens chanting their song, asking me to read them, but with this one it's like its playing it cool, to cool.

So share with us, which one of this vast selection of covers is your favorite? And if you by any chance know why it had so many cover make overs or which came first I would love it if you would share, this kind of details may not really matter when compared with what the book holds inside that it will satisfy the book nerd inside of me greatly.

  1. Such a tough choice! At first I didn't like the new covers, but the more I look at them, the more I like them. My copy of Across the Universe is the first you listed above (paperback). A Million Suns the "could be a movie poster" paperback with Amy and Elder. And now I have Shades of Earth with the new green cover. I've got all types and formats covered :D

One thing I know for sure is that I hate the blueprint cover. Tells you nothing...

  2. UH!!! really the blueprint one doesn't hold secrets to special scenarios in the book??? Well there goes my wishful thinking.
    Thanks for sharing Ivana :D

  3. I like the romance one. Most people don't think romance when they see a sci-fi novel, so I think the almost kissing cover gives readers more info on the book. It worked. I bought it. :-)

  4. That is true, it gives you the heads up we are denied in the book blurb. With all the "you where frozen on a spaceship and now someone is trying to kill you" drama I'm not sure where the romance comes in but the cover does smooth it out.
Thank you for your comment :)

  5. Agreed. If they had placed Amy behind the glass in the new cover, and then had a reflection of Elder in her eye, I would like it. The first cover contained the romantic element.

I despise the blueprint cover. Reminds me of a botched Craft and Design class project...

I'm really picky over covers, and sometimes it can turn me away from a book before I've even turned over to the blurb.
