Synopsis
After the wars and bombing that shuck Black City the darkling and the humans where separated, segregating the full blooded darklings and leaving only the half-bloods in Black City, well the half-bloods, some servants and the illegal darklings that found their way to the city.
Now Purian Rose, the priest and leader of this new world has decreed that darklings and humans cannot be together, not in the city unless they are one of the last half-bloods or servants, but more importantly they can never fall in love, love between a darkling and a human is punishable by death of everyone involved.
This is the story of Natalie, the emissary daughter that is coming back to Black City after her dads horrific murder, and Ash a half-breed conflicted with life and the abandonment issues from his mother. Soon they will experience the irony of their social status and a love worth fighting for.

Review
First of all I don't recommend reading this book anytime soon after you have read Mystic City, even though the core story of the book is different they do have certain similarities that will take some of the enjoyment away.
The most delicious part of this book was the darkness in which the Black City lives, you see people trying to rebuild their lives after the city got bombed and how they improvise and live in building that in our world would not be deemed habitable.
I love that Natalie really has something to loose for this love, that she starts to see the truth about both sides, the darklings and the humans. I would call this book an evolution in vampires meets a dystopian world you really don't want to live in.
