Cover Wars: Blood Warrior by H.D. Gordon

Welcome to another edition of Cover Wars!!!! Today's contestants is no other then H.D. Gordon's Blood Warrior who got a make over. For those of you that have never heard about Blood Warrior lets take a look at the book blurb

When her home is attacked by murderous vampires, 17-year-old Alexa is forced to leave her mother for dead in order to save her sister. She soon learns that she is the last known member of an elite race of supernatural Warriors, and is thrust into a world full of vampires and werewolves who all seem to regard her as some sort of savior. Meanwhile, Alexa battles a monster within herself that seeks to gain control; a monster that seeks blood.
The hidden city she finds herself in appears perfect, but Alexa's instincts tell her that all is not right within its walls. When she is asked to attend a school of fighters, whose exams consist of gladiator-style competitions, she must decide who she can trust among the smiling faces. And, when she meets Kayden, a vampire she feels undeniably drawn to, she must decide if she can trust herself.

Lets see the contestants shall we:

  1. Here is a little known fun fact for you guys, The original cover "model" is none other than H.D. Gordon herself. Being her debut novel she couldn't afford a designer and at the last minute in her desperation hung up a black sheet and a friend snapped the picture. There also happens to be a third version of this cover with a background added to the first cover which happens to be awesome but HD wanted to get herself off the book.

  2. Uhhhhh now I am curious about how the third cover looks like!!! >.<
And thank you for that awesome fun fact and to H.D. for being brave and posing for her cover :D

  3. I'd vie for the model from the first superimposed over the design in the second. The first has a lot of needless blank space in the upper half and would benefit from some sort of border behind the model. While the second is markedly improved in resolution, the glow in the upper left hand quadrant seems arbitrary and distracts from the central design, which, in itself, is muted and not particularly compelling to someone who anyone who doesn't "get" its significance. By layering the model from the first cover over the central design of the second cove, and toning down the glow effect, we alleviate focus problems, give prospective readers a visual hook, and solve the problem of the model in the first cover floating in negative space.

Just my amateurish opinion, not to knock anyone who worked on either cover. Both covers are already heads above plenty out there!
